Friends of Sidmouth Town Band is an amazing group of supporters, who help to raise money for the bandroom renovations, and for new instruments and equipment. By becoming a friend and supporter of the band, you will:
- Receive a quarterly newsletter with all the band news, events and fundraising updates.
- Be invited to Friends of Sidmouth Town Band social and musical events.
- Make new friends through this welcoming, voluntary organisation.
Friends of Sidmouth Town Band (FoSTB) was formed in early 2016, initially to assist the band in its search for a desperately-needed larger band room. The attractive but tiny thatched band room in Woolcombe Lane had been the band’s happy home since WW11 but alternative premises were clearly needed, to provide adequate space not only for Senior and Training Band rehearsals, but also for the band’s substantial library, storage for numerous instruments and teaching rooms for a Brass Academy. Since then, the band’s enthusiastic support group has continued to grow and flourish, and FoSTBs have become an important and much-appreciated part of the band’s extended family. It is through the generosity and support of the FoSTBs that sufficient funds were raised to help the band secure St. Frances Hall as their new band room. Also, with Friends’ help, much-needed instruments have been bought, including a tenor horn, a tam tam and a set of timpani.
Newsletters are regularly sent, advising of the band’s, and the Friends’ upcoming activities and achievements. Various events take place for FoSTBs throughout the year, including Coffee Concerts and Afternoon Teas.
Sunday concerts in Sidmouth’s Connaught Gardens are huge favourites with everybody. These magical concerts take place throughout the summer free of charge, starting at the end of May and continuing through until early September. Sidmouth Town Band’s popular and atmospheric Last Night of the Proms is held on a Saturday evening in August and is always a sell-out!
Friends of the band are invited to attend occasional rehearsals. They are also invited to travel with the band to various locations, when local and National contests take place. ‘Specially for Friends’ events are also held as a thank you for the loyal support the band receives.
